Ok so this has been a while, but well its about time i started doing my vineblogs again. The holidays have started but that does not meen a break, no its the begining of the VCE Monologues and there is alot of work to be done.
Thanks to the class for all reading a play from the VCAA selection it was interesting to hear them all read out, even if the good ones appear to be the female monologues. But i have a tendency to lean toward two of the male play, Tom Wrights adaptation of Defoes A Journal of the Plague Year, and the other play that i like is the classic, A Dolls House. I also dont mind Jason from Medea. So my monologue this week will be split into three parts, one part for each monologue.
JASON-MEDEA
Hmm well a tricky monologue, the story line is not hard to understand, in its most basic form the play tells the story of the jealousy and revenge of a woman, Medea betrayed by her husband, Jason. The action of the play is set at Corinth, where Jason has brought Medea after the adventures of the Golden Fleece. However he has left her to marry Glauce.
The difficulties of this play dont lie within its plot or the dialogue, but rather in the fact that the tradional context and the greek tradional theatre styles and conventions. Such as tradional acting and dialogue conventions that should be followed. This difficulty also creates a great strength in the peice it enbles context interpretation. But I do not think i would like to change the context of Medea, as it i feel would comprimise the play and the selected Monologue.
A Dolls House
Hmmm wat an interesting play, from the reseach I have done dolls house is a somewat more a different than other plays. It is about Nora, who is the doll who is confinded to the world of her house by her controlling husband. In the end she leaves and becomes impowered.
This stands out to me the most as it seems for some reason a play that i would choose. The monologue seems to have a really wide rage of acting in it, and apears to be one of the most emotional hightend play that i could choose. It for this reason i like it, i would be able to truly show off my acting abilities to a level that i feel i have not reached befor. It also would be more suited than MEDEA as it uses more modern Theatrical conventions rather than tradional Greek convention.
Journal of the Plague Years-Defoe
By far my favorite, Im not sure why liek not the best written play but maybe is has such a powerfull and dramatic start of “London, a Necropolis” and then the reading of the Bible very powerful. I am cuurently reading the play and the original book by Defoe that the play is based on. I never knew so many ppl died each week from the plague, and the church gave the deaths of the people two different names to cover up the number of deaths and hide the actual level of the epidemic.
Thats all For now, next vine blog by the end of the week with updates on thoughts and ideas. Oh and Much ado about nothing sucks so bad i really think it is bad, the worst shakespearian play by far and so i am not doing the monologue from it.
