Term 3 Week 2.3

ok so weeks been so drawn out so im going to keep this short untill end of the week.

I have choosen to do DEFOE, i know it will be hard but i feel that it could be a really good peice. I have spent the last fw days thinkning about different stage crafts and i really like the idea of using multimedia, such as audio and movies. For those who have not read the book, TJOTPY does have some aspects of multimedia already in it so this is wat i am using as my back bone for this idea.

well more later cya

Term 3 Week 2

Ok vineblogs are back and i have a bit to write about,

The first 2 weeks have been a rush of new ideas for theatre and its all thanks to MONOLOGUES. I had thought that i would be doing Defoe for J.o.tP.Y but after the MTC workshop i really dont know.  So i guess thats how i will structure my blog for the week in two section, MTC and Monologues

 MTC

This was hmmm… interesting, I found that because we had done the readings of the monologues and the holiday homework I already knew abit of what they were telling us, like all the info they gave us about each monologue we had already done durring the class presentations. But however I did find the Leban work helpful as I did not remember doing it. I know i did because Mr Worall made us float and that was fun lol. It was also amazing to see Buraks work on TOM, he seemed to dramaticly improve over the 3 preformances. The MTC workshop also gave us a chance to speak to one of the judges and ask her some questions. She pointed out how changing the context of the play worked and that was rather helpfull especially i think for Erica.

and unfortunately im about to fall asleep so i will leave it there untill sunday arvo, cya later guys.

Holiday Week 2

Ok so this will be short just to show i have done some work i have mainly been focusing on Dolls house and Plague Year.

Plague Year for those who care was originaly published as a book rather than a play. It was written By Daniel Defoe, and this is were the charecter defoe comes from. facts about the book, it was not published through the real memories of Daniel Defoe as he would have been i think it was 5 when the plague re-amerged in london in its full force. Instea the book was written years later under an alias, the initial of the alias are the same as defoes uncule who it was believed that defoe read and based his accounts on his uncles journals.

Also huge thing that i love is that A journal of the Plague Years written by wright has no plot, it has no story line, but rather a connect theam of death and the plague itself. amazingly the charecter do not develop, grow or change from the past event of the plague. each scean is to be detached from itself and from time, as it shifts from year to year with technoloyg, vocab and is truly amazing to thinkn of the paradox it could create.

It is these thing that are shaping my thought, Like erika i to was thinking of changing historical context from the plauge destroyed london to maybe post 9/11 New York, or London bombing there fore it would still be london and the woman i talk aout could be one of the victims of the terrorist attacks, but more and more i think about it it seems that if i shift to america i loose an important area of it the fact its set in london. that leads me to think about the tube bombing, and the importance of london.
And that paradox of time leads me to my other idea. it actually came to me when i was thinking of the monologues we went to see, I got thinking of the Quintin Tarantino/ Kill Bill adapted version of the maids play. it lost no power from chaning historical context or period, but rather it used theams and styles of other modern plays and in itself was creating a new play and that was were some how my thoughts lead to my new idea. Im thinking of doing it in a Russell T. Davies/ David Tennant style, but that all im saying in this blog, soem of you may know who or what that mean but others wont and must wait.

Holliday Week 1

Ok so this has been a while, but well its about time i started doing my vineblogs again. The holidays have started but that does not meen a break, no its the begining of the VCE Monologues and there is alot of work to be done.
Thanks to the class for all reading a play from the VCAA selection it was interesting to hear them all read out, even if the good ones appear to be the female monologues. But i have a tendency to lean toward two of the male play, Tom Wrights adaptation of Defoes A Journal of the Plague Year, and the other play that i like is the classic, A Dolls House. I also dont mind Jason from Medea. So my monologue this week will be split into three parts, one part for each monologue.

JASON-MEDEA
Hmm well a tricky monologue, the story line is not hard to understand, in its most basic form the play tells the story of the jealousy and revenge of a woman, Medea betrayed by her husband, Jason. The action of the play is set at Corinth, where Jason has brought Medea after the adventures of the Golden Fleece. However he has left her to marry Glauce.
The difficulties of this play dont lie within its plot or the dialogue, but rather in the fact that the tradional context and the greek tradional theatre styles and conventions. Such as tradional acting and dialogue conventions that should be followed. This difficulty also creates a great strength in the peice it enbles context interpretation. But I do not think i would like to change the context of Medea, as it i feel would comprimise the play and the selected Monologue.

A Dolls House
Hmmm wat an interesting play, from the reseach I have done dolls house is a somewat more a different than other plays. It is about Nora, who is the doll who is confinded to the world of her house by her controlling husband. In the end she leaves and becomes impowered.
This stands out to me the most as it seems for some reason a play that i would choose. The monologue seems to have a really wide rage of acting in it, and apears to be one of the most emotional hightend play that i could choose. It for this reason i like it, i would be able to truly show off my acting abilities to a level that i feel i have not reached befor. It also would be more suited than MEDEA as it uses more modern Theatrical conventions rather than tradional Greek convention.

Journal of the Plague Years-Defoe
By far my favorite, Im not sure why liek not the best written play but maybe is has such a powerfull and dramatic start of “London, a Necropolis” and then the reading of the Bible very powerful. I am cuurently reading the play and the original book by Defoe that the play is based on. I never knew so many ppl died each week from the plague, and the church gave the deaths of the people two different names to cover up the number of deaths and hide the actual level of the epidemic.

Thats all For now, next vine blog by the end of the week with updates on thoughts and ideas. Oh and Much ado about nothing sucks so bad i really think it is bad, the worst shakespearian play by far and so i am not doing the monologue from it.

ok just a really quick part 1 of what will be a 2 part blog for the week.

I just have an urge to tell all those readers out there that it is 12:44 and I have finished editing, cutting, looping, fadeing, normaliseing and layering the songs for ALL the charecters, the void, the begining and the pre-show music. YAY

It took about 1 hour just to edit Sophies track from 8 seconds to 1 minute and 30 seconds. Hers has been the hardest.

however my nero is having issues and wont let me burn the heart beat or other sound effects like that at the moment, some message about liscense. Not sure what the problem is but im sure Lucas will fix it, hes really good at computers and has all teh crack codes for the comp.

so as i said a short update of audio, tomorrow i will do part 2 of my blog, a full update of audio and SET, bad blue LOL

oh and Cooper or JT is u read this before saturday rehersal can we leave for like 10 min duck out to bunnings with my dad and we can get Bamboo sticks and all that stuff???

Term 2 Week 4-FAME

Posted on May 11th, 2007 by jayrod.

“FAME! Im gonna live forever I’m gonna learn how to fly HIGH”

“You know what its like when you wake up in the morning and its…”

“When I’m down and feeling blue, I close my eyes and I just think of you”

“Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh LORD give me a sign”

“And I celebrate Venus, I celebrate Mars and I burn with the fire of 10million stars”

“Pray pray pray, I pray I make P.A”

And now i start my blog, with that a quote “I pray” thats rite I pray that the memories of Fame last forever. FAME is running its last ground and well I’m sad. The experience is almost over and Im sad. The theatre has so many memories, from the titanic of Once on this Island, the elevator of Little Shop of Horrors, the trio of Me Latz and Josh of Guys and Dolls and the quick changes of GODSPELL. They all are little important memories and i look back on them and they make me so happy. Unfortunatly in 3 more shows it will be over forever!!!!!!

Well not forever, but long time.

I have actually learnt some things for 100 by being in FAME at the theatre, and most of them relate to audio.

Audio

well i have never realised how important it will be to mix the audio levels properly as we are using a un-miked stage as the cast will have to really project, and thats important as some of the scenes are really soft so we will have to therefore have the audio low, or even none. But i think thats an issue we will deal with wen were in the space, as there is not much we can do now.

also watching fame even though its a musical it has just shown how important it is that the music fits the dialogoue and acting.

That is all for now, FAME has been my whole week.

Term 2 Week 3

week 3, wow how time flys. It flys FAST, that how it flys. so fast and we only have 2 weeks left untill our production of 100 is put on the stage at MIPAC. Its freaking me out, but im so looking forwad to it. IT IS GONNA BE GREAT.

SAC
I am not sure if the sac was this week or last, i do believe we had our last period of our sac on monday. I sort of understand what context is, and how interpreting the context changes the choices and effects of different contexts within the play. historical context can change the social context. I also enjoyed my question 3, as i choose to talk about costume and the pros and cons of it. It gave me a choice to sum up both sides of the argument, plus i was able to draw picture LOL. Im a simple kid who like drawing, the drawings are important as they enable the judger to associate a visial componet with the writen part of my question 3.
My only problem with it was I think that we should of had the sac closer to the play as some thoughts had left my mind as there was a gap between the play and sac, and those who through the rubbers and paper at tasha should fail LOL. YOU MESS WIF TASHA THEN YOU MESS WIF ME, SO BACK OFF LOL.

SET

WINDOW WALL
well set this week has been busy on the behind the scene work, as tasha and i had a 1 hour phone call about set and our choices of curve wall with a gap and a pannle behind with a circular window in it. A colabiration of two set ideas, my angled pannles and tashas curved wall with a window yay. Tasha and I also spent some time talking about weather we have a white cloth over the window or a glass effect??? we also then went onto the idea if we have glass would it be clear-opaque or frosted and that led us to talk about using a thin perspex from bunnings that would be about 5$ and if we wanted it frosted then we could use a laminate that i have already to convert clear glass into frosted window glass. If we go for the perspex that bunnings have it is thin enought for us to use as it is lightweight and comes in different shades and tones.

CURVE WALL
The curve wall wood specifications are compleate and after talking to cooper we will have them next week, so we can build most of it yay. It will be 3m hight by 6m wide and 1m deep and made from a pine frame. however to save money we are re-using the same 3mm ply of Fame so we have to wait until FAME is over before we have the ply needed.

BOXES
there have been some problems with the boxes. There has been lack of communication between the directing team and what they envisioned for the boxes and the set team and what they have determind for the boxe. however that problem has been worked out as tasha and i had a chat and i spoke to lisa about it and its all cleared up. For the boxes we are having 2 rectange 750 mm heigh 900 wide and 450 deep, and two smaller squares

AUDIO
i will come back to as i wish to finish sophies music, but this week it has progressed so far, and its really close the music has be chosen for ketu 2 tracks, Alex and Nia 3 tracks and the Void has 2 tracks. The sound affects are proving harder to find, but slowly im finding things, very slowly. I also spoke to Steph W about doing the voice over for the french comentator and she seems happy. that meens that i will need to book a time with Mr Carrick to record the tracks after FAME, and also Erica i’m going to get your dialogues for the tube scene pre-recorded as will be easyer to do, and we will also have the mother for sophies second memory recorded as it may be easyer to do rather than from the side as you mite no be able to see Gemma and that could cause problems.
Oh Josh the briefe meeting we had really helped alot as it ment that i could talk to you and get your ideas allowing me to go futher and collect more audio tracks.

Term 2 Week 2

Posted on April 27th, 2007 by jayrod.
Categories: Uncategorized.

so week 2 has been really fast due to the break in the middle and the fact that we are compleating a sac.

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
SAC, IT WAS HARD.

Thank you to Jordy and Lisa and Tasha for you help on msn, not sure if it helped you but it gave me a way to express wat i did know and also made me rethink wat i knew and needed to know. after sitting the first 45 min i feel i may have gone to slow as i only finished question 2 and half of question 1, however i have worked out that if i answer question 1 in the next 15 min then i can finish question 3 in the last 30 min.

SET

Not to much to say on the set, sept the set is now finished and i will tell u to veiw tashas vineblog as i do not know how to upload pic. basicly we really like the idea of what mr cooper showed us at MIPAC about having a gap in the wall and a flat pannel behind with a window in it, yay, all our ideas collabirated into one.

AUDIO

Really not sure wat to say, i have what i want to use, i just need to know what josh wants and we can collabirate and wok out a final mix for the track for the play. homework for weekend for me is to put all the tracks from all the cd’s onto one. yay.

PRODUCTION MEETING

It was really good to have another production meeting, to long between them. I think that its good we have decided on bying costumes as it meens we will have them quicker and we mite not have had long enuff to buy matterial, patterns and then make them. and it was good to relax with erica in the production meeting, and plz people we will move faster if all of us listen to Mr cooper, or who is trying to speak.

Thats all for now, have a good weekend.

Term 2 Week 1

                                                                                                                           Mood : BURAK

ok so holidays are over and i said in my last blog i would finish my rantings about set, so here it goes.

Set

HAPPY/SAD
Ok so here me are, so bizzare i should be at skool now, sept i am to sick so i sit here with information about a purchase order. hopefully tash will have worked out the information and given it to cooper.

So pannels they turned out really good, we got over the problem of the wood falling apart, by changing nails for screws, but that in turn created the problem of the wood spliting. luckily that comprimise is acceptable and safe. The pannels also have undergone there first layer of paint, an undercoat. I have also done a pricing for set and ita around 600$ for wood and paint we will need:

4 x 3m x 1.8m x 12mm MDF
6 x 2.4m x 1.8m x 3mm MDF
20 x 3.3m x 75mm x 19 mm Pine Support Beams (straight)
6L of Paint.

Price for that is approx $530.00

AUDIO

Really not much else to say about audio, I need to ask Steph Way if she would be able to do the french comentary. That also meens that I will need to send an email to Mr Carrick about organising a time to record the french. I have also finished most of the audio choices for the cast. Burak was easy, then a general music for the void came next and then sophies music and i think i have the selection for Nia now. But none of this is finale, as it all depends on wat Josh has found, and so i put forward can you josh bring in any audio you have i recon that we should finalise what we have and deside on what we want to keep.

MACBETH

OMGoodness. How amazing was Macbeth. Yet again John Bell creates such a amazing production of a classic. The begining was really powerful. The stage lights as the audio track rises, a mix of a windy storm covered with a gail of rain and the sound of war torn battle, the howling of exploding bombs, the shower of bullets leaving a machine gun. all while the stage is pitch black. then suddenly as the audio cracks with lightning we see the cast on stage, staning with legs wide and posture strong and controlling. As quickly as it became light it is again dark, while all the time the mix or war and rain plays on in the background. Seconds later the lights again flash, and this time the cast is dead still on the floor. I thought it was one of the most amazing ways to capture the audience i have seen. I was also really amazed with the style and costumes of most of the play. I found myself watching and feeling a sence of 1940-50 world war 2. some of the costumes were really appealing, and so were the props. The daggers for me only futher strenghend the ww2 feel for me, and also gave me some strage images in my head. When the king of Scotland entred it was very Hitler based, and it was from this that the daggers to me seemed to fit in with the peice. Not sure if other noticed that, or if any of you understand what i am saying. The reason the daggers to me felt “period” was members of Hitlers army had daggers with the Swastica and the German eagel on them.
2 things i did not like were the choice of costume for Lady MacDuff, and there child. to me it was odd and out of period. and i also did not like the death of Macbeth, as the gun did not suite. thats not the same as saying i did not like how he was killed, i really like the use of a bullet to kill him, it was the choice of gun that was used that i did not like, the small details.
Oh one last thing i really like the change of lights at one stage to distinguish between real time in the play and Macbeths Solilique.

TOP CLASS
WOW… and Yet Compleatly withing grasp.
Today there were many things that i think all of us gained from Top Class, weather it be getting use to dramatic and stylistic pauses, or the small details of staying in ones charecter. I think that my Fave was Oscar Wildes play. It was witty cleaver and really funny. I ALSO LIKED cerano de burgerak IT WAS GREAT.

I did not like how ever Amadeus, Lisa’s play. there were areas i found really good, and then others that Lisa did a much better job at. From watching it i could see that there were times wen the quietness and sad pathos were really important, and had not noticed this before, and then other times were i thought it was lacking, really need to go higher and commit more, like Lisa.

AND finaly i must thank ERIKA, YOU ROCK. the car trip home was fun. Ur DAD ROCK
AND I must Thank JORDAN, YOU ROCK, and so does Tracy. THANKS ALL OF YOU FOR THE CAR TRIPS.
